"Over and above the inebriating joy of Asturiana Mining Company's music, their masterful integration of a riot of influences raises the bar for continuing musical fusion." - Jim Foley, RootsWorld
The official press from the band:
Founded in 1998, by Lee Wolfe. "This errant, unrepentant and expressive American, a fighter in love with music, knew how to communicate perfectly with the audience.. .a commanding stage presence, he gave 110 percent during the concert. " Cuca Alonso, La Nueva Espa-a."

In the Summer of 1984, aNorth American from Pennsylvania landed in the streets of Spain with little more than a backpack and a guitar case that doubled as collection box at early sidewalk performances.

Since those days, Michael Lee Wolfe has become a musician who moves with equal ease behind the guitar, a mixing board or behind the desk in his office. His time is divided between being a concert bandleader or acclaimed songwriter of American roots music.

" ...(Lee Wolfe) uncovers the roots of the classic American sound shades of J J Cale, Ry Cooder or even Springsteen. A surprise and a discovery considering that Wolfe has lived in the north of Spain for several years and this inspired work was recorded with Spanish musicians". Alan Paul, Guitar World Magazine.

But 15 years as an ex-patriottrubadour have gone fartherthan producing good rock 'n' roll. Lee Wolfe has been one of the main figures in the resurgence of folk music in Asturias, along the north central coast of Spain. After recording and performing for many years with the historic bands Ubi-a and Xaru, he decided in 1998 to found his most ambitious project to date: The Asturiana Mining Company.

"The heart and soul of the AMC is Mr Michael Lee Wolfe, an" Asturianized yankee" who spreads his contagious intensity and musical vision around the rest of the group. ., the result being an original fusion of Asturian and world music. (Lee Wolfe) sets an example for mixing imagination and hard work. " -Miguel Angel Fernandez, Sonic. The Music of the Asturiana Mining Company is a singular breed of north and south, celtic and latin, blues and bagpipes. The roots come from tradtional Asturian music but after that each musician brings in his own personality and sound. This sound comes from a lineup of musicians that go from latin jazzers to professional classical musicians to traditional Asturian folk musicians. " magnificent musicians...with their guns loaded and cocked..,"- AurelioArgrl, La Voz de Asturias.

Alberto Varillas is the star figure in the band, a superb piper and singer whose father enjoys an international reputation as a brilliant luthier, responsable for turning the Asturian bagpipe into a professional instrument. He has recorded with artists, including the Symphony Orchestra of Asturias.

Xaime Arias is a jazz pianist an award-winning writer on Asturian traditional music.

Margot Lorences won several international accordion competitions before deciding that her fingers were best served playing folk music.

Dario Barbosa, originally from Portugal, is one of Spains leading latin percussion stylists.

Manuel Cordero has been playing traditional Asturian percussion nearly all his life and is equally at home behind a drum set,

Nacho Felipe is a multiinstrumentalist and producer whose solid bass grooves are continually solicited by artists of many genres. Add the keystone which is the writing and guitar stylings of Lee Wolfe and you have a promising receipe for some hot folk music.

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
