Kadril
De Andere Kust (Wild Boar)

The 2005 release by the Flemish folk rock band features three great female vocalists, Kadril singer Mariken Boussemaere, English singer Heather Grabham and the wonderful Hungarian singer Szilvia Bognár. The songs include traditional Flemish, Hungarian and British songs and tunes, all played with the distinctly 'kadril sound.' The songs are a varied lot, about emmigration to North America in the 2 decades before and after 1900. This equally varied ensemble of Europeans give the songs a unique voice.

More music by Kadril

Kadril has been going for a good many years as the most prominent folk-rock band in Flanders. In the 1990s they managed to go beyond the world of the folkies with singer Patrick Riguelle and it was also Kadril that introduced the girl singers of Laďs to a wider audience. The Laďs girls went their own - very successful - way and Kadril discovered a new singer, Eva De Roovere who subsequently also went in different directions. Kadril then launched a project with another girl band, the Galician singers of Alumea and they recorded a double album, La Paloma Negra. And it must be that all those blokes in Kadril really like girl singers, because they have done it again. Their latest album introduces three new voices: Flemish singer Mariken Boussemaere who was selected after auditioning 70 candidates, the British singer Heather Grabham and the Hungarian singer Szilvia Bognar, also known from the Hungarian a cappella group Vandor Vokal. This gives a lot of scope to Kadril to present a very varied programme around the theme of the great flux of emigration during the period between 1870 and the 1920s. From all over Europe people moved to the States and lots of songs were written about it, a fine selection of which can be heard on this new CD, entitled De Andere Kust (The Other Shore). - RVi / Radio Vlaanderen Internationaal, Belgium

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
