cd cover Papillon
Hotel Bergerac (Wild Boar)

An elegant Gypsy-jazz-inspired ensemble from Belgium that is centered on the wonderful vocals of Karla Verlie and a fine ensemble of musicians and singers: Gwen Cresens (accordeon), Jean Corti (accordeon), , Ben Faes (bass), Hendrik Braeckman (guitar), Koen De Cauter (voice, guitar, saxophone) and percussionists Cesar Janssens and Kobi Preosmans, with special guest Jean Corti on accordion. It's elegant. It swings. It's superb.

This group was formed by the very talented accordeonist, Gwen Cresens, and we hear his predisposition for combining Gypsy jazz and Balkan rhythms, but the main context of the group is to reinterpret items from the classic chanson repertoire: there are compositions by Brassens, Brel, Aznavour et al. The finest aspects here are the singing of Karla Verlie - she has the quality of an understated young Piaf - and the sheer quality of all the songs. - fROOTS

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
