Press from the record label:
From the producers of the critically acclaimed Paranda album: Stonetree Records proudly presents the long anticipated new album, “Garifuna Soul” by Paranda superstar Aurelio Martinez, one of the most extraordinary and passionate Garifuna artists of his generation.
Featuring, among others, the musical talents of Rolando Sosa, Lugua Centeno, Chela Torres, Justo Miranda, and Andy Palacio, “Garifuna Soul” was recorded by Ivan Duran and Gil Abarbanel in a relaxed atmosphere at Sandy Beach Resort in beautiful Hopkins village. The result is a natural sound that captures Aurelio’s spontaneous character and intensity.
This new album, a mix of original and traditional compositions, includes 12 selections, comprising a rich blend of acoustic instruments and soulful vocals. With the stage set for an emotive fusion of traditional and modern, “Garifuna Soul” will revolutionize, with fresh elegance, the tradition of Paranda music.
One of the most extraordinary and passionate Garifuna artists of his generation, Aurelio Martinez follows in the footsteps of the legendary Parranderos of the Caribbean coast of Central America to become the new voice of Paranda.
Acclaimed for both his preservation and modernization of this musical tradition, Aurelio’s virtuosity is found in his distinctive, penetrating vocals and his talent as a composer.
Born in 1976 into a family possessing a long and distinguished musical tradition in the small Garifuna community of Plaplaya in Honduras, at the age of six he was already playing drums at social gatherings and picking up his father’s guitar as soon as he was big enough to hold it. Inspired by his grandmother and his father, Aurelio gathered a vast repertoire, which later enabled him to develop his playing and his own style.
Aurelio’s collaboration with Stonetree Records dates back to 1997, when he contributed to the now famous Paranda recording sessions, delivering three masterful performances, including his well-known composition: “Africa” and an inspiring duet with Andy Palacio.
An original member of the Garifuna All Star Band, Aurelio has taken his Paranda music to stages in France, Japan, USA, Mexico and neighboring Central American countries.

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
