At-Tambur (Tradisom Music)
$17.99

The Portuguese band At-Tambur joins violin, drums, hurdy-gurdy, acoustic guitar, flutes, double bass, voice and accordion in a musical exploration of folk music both traditional and imagined. They draw heavily from other cultures, especially Arabic and North African, but always inject a genuine local flavor into their music. In a nation where the fado rules, this band is showing the world what else is possible in the context of Portuguese tradition.

The bands says of themselves:

This work marks the very awaited opening of At-Tambur in the records field. With this CD, the group completes a first cycle in his life and it's musical vision of the world - in this case going for melodies and rhythmic variations - with a traditional and European background.

At-Tambur joins violin, drums, hurdy-gurdy, acoustic guitar, flutes, double bass, voice and concertina creating tunes some real other imagined, some originals and some from traditional culture.

Together since 1999, At-Tambur dedicated initially to give life to European folk dances - where the audience danced in rhythm of the music learning and teaching several steps from various old traditional dances.

With and along that experience, At-Tambur created a parallel project of musics adapted to be played in concerts and started to invite some voices and instruments.

Now it's presented a record inspired on Portuguese and other roots; influenced by classical, ancient and jazz music, through the creation and choice of challenging repertoire in it's interpretation, arrangement and the gathering of it all...

Gonçalo Carneiro - Bateria
Gonçalo Carneiro started his studies in drums at Hot Clube Portugal and then in Amsterdam. In At-Tambur, Gonçalo created his own style which allows music do feel closer to the roots of the instrument and drink of many other music stiles.

João Simas - Guitarra
João Simas had classic formation but it was mostly from Brazilian music that he found the inspiration and some of his main references. He has been developing many aspects of the band's sound and creative process, mainly in compositions and harmonization's.

José Miguel - Sanfona, Concertina
His taste for traditional roots music began watching Paulo Marinho (Gaiteiros de Lisboa) teaching bagpipes. He later founded boomerang, a formation that made musical-fusion performances. Presently is a member of At-Tambur, composing and playing some of the instruments related to the traditional European roots.

Sérgio Crisóstomo - Violino
Sérgio Crisóstomo is a classical formed violin player being responsible for some of the band's sound developing great improvisation skills and special interest on folk music, adapting it to multiple music stiles. He is presently student of violin at Lisbon's University - ESML.

Tiago Costa-Freire - Flautas doces
Tiago Costa-Freire made his studies in Lisbon's Conservatory in flute, developing great interest on ancient and baroque music. In At-Tambur he is responsible for many of the musical dialogs established between the flute and violin or voice making every performance of the band sound new and re-discovered.

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
