This CD is dedicated to recreating the Romanciero, a genre which made its way to the overseas colonies where it became not only a source of knowledge but also a cultural influence which has spread almost exclusively via oral transmission. It is still possible to find the same themes or different versions of the same Romance in places as distant as Brazil and Goa.
Five of Portugal's best folk-roots interpreters - Amélia Muge, Brigada Victor Jara, Gaiteiros de Lisboa, João Afonso and Sérgio Godinho - were asked to choose old songs or compose new works based on two Romances of their choice. They reconstructed a process that had been repeated many times in the course of history: the same theme and the same text rekindled with new music. The CD is beautifuly packaged with a 68 page booklet (Portuguese and English)
