cd cover Johanna Juhola
Miette (Texicalli)

Yet another Sibelius graduate brings her accordion to new territory, exploring her roots while simultaneously shattering preconceptions. A member of the Finnish groups Troka and Spontaani Vire , this recording finds her in far more adventurous turf, in both solo works and some agressive ensemble work.
Juhola plays 5-row free bass accordion, 5-row standard bass accordion and one-row melodeon, as well as claviola, melodica and glockenspiel. The backing ensemble includes tuba, electronics, violin, viola, piano, guitar, percussion, saxophone and voices.

From the Finnish Music Information Center:

Accordionist Johanna Juhola is one of the younger generation Sibelius Academy products. Her primary interest is working in a duo with a fellow Academy student, pianist/singer Milla Viljamaa. The core of the duo's repertoire consists of Astor Piazzolla's Argentinean tangos, as well as original compositions by Juhola. Their first album was released in 2003.

Juhola and Viljamaa introduce new shades to tango nuevo and combine elements of jazz and folk music traditions from various countries. This concept earned them the first prize at the International Astor Piazzolla Competition in Italy in 2002. Around the same time, they launched a new trio Las Chicas del Tango together with tango singer Kukka-Maaria Ahonen.

This is her first solo album featuring her own compositions, with solo accordion pieces, as well as ensemble tracks featuring carefully chosen guest musicians.

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
