Miary Lepiera
Soro
$16.99
The Malagasy guitarist's second album falls right into the techo-folk realm that was pioneered many years ago on another CD call Soro, the first solo release by Malian superstar Salif Keita. In much the same adventurous way, Lepiera has forged his own unique electric and acoustic guitar sounds, based on the melodies and rhythms of traditional valiha and marovany music from Madagascar, but merged with a high-tech mix of electronics and acoustic tricks, a big studio sound and a broad, spacious ambiance.

The artist's bio:
Miary Lepiera, is not only an author and composer ; he is also singer and guitarist. In trying to develop his musical roots, he strikes a contemporary note.
His singing is reminiscent of the traditional songs of the south west of Madagascar where he grew up: lullabies, religious rites, the rituals of exorcism, rural melodies.
While never conceding to the folklore, he makes us feel the strength of a thousand-year-old culture unfortunately unknown in Europe. His way of playing the guitar has been often praised. In changing the tuning, he finds the sounds of the Malagasy zithers (marovany, valiha).
Miary came to Europe while he was touring with a Malagasy band called "Njava". Since then he has been travelled all over Western Europe playing in several world music stages. As he was living in Brussels, Europe's multicultural capital, he make the most of it to meet musicians of various styles ( jazz, afrojazz, funk…).By choosing musicians from various african countries, Miary Lepiera could reveal some of the (unwritten) history of Malagasy music. Madagascar, the Great Island in the Indian Ocean, is a land where the influences of Africa and Asia come together.

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
