The tunes on this album come from Nordmøre and Romsdal: Deep red, sober and sonorous tunes from Tresfjord; bright green, breezy and upbeat dance tunes from Midsund; steel blue and razor sharp tunes from Nordmøre.
Jorun Marie R. Kvernberg (b. 1979) comes from Fræna, Romsdal. A graduate from the Norwegian College of music with fiddle and hardanger fiddle as her main instruments. She is currently freelancing as a traditional music perfomer with the groups Tindra and Majorstuen, as well as in other settings. "PICKING UP MY FIDDLE fills me with confidence and creative spirit. To me, the fiddle is a means of communication, and traditional music gives me the freedom to express myself the way I want. When facing an audience, I’ve found that traditional music, with its sincere, intimate and powerful style, is particularly suited to touching people’s hearts. I grew up as part of a music-loving family, and learnt the first fiddle tunes from my mother. My father plays the piano, and two of my siblings are musicians. My maternal grandfather was a fiddler, and his music was my introduction to traditional music. My grandfather passed away when I was eight years old, so I never had him as a tutor, but later on I learnt his tunes from my mother and from recordings of his own playing. Since then, I have widened my knowledge by studying source recordings and meeting a number of master fiddlers. I am grateful for all the work that is being done to preserve this music, and especially for the generosity of all the people who have taught me their own tunes» - Jorun Marie, October 2006

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
