Forgotten Guitars from Mozambique 1955, '56 and '57 (Sharp Wood / ILAM)
I am an easy mark for good acoustic guitar music from Africa, no matter what period. Here are some classics, brilliant music recorded in 1955, 56 and 57 in Portuguese East Africa that includes guitarists and singers Feliciano Gomes, Aurelio Kowano, Andrea Sithole, Alberto Mwamosi, Alberto Fulani, Gabriel Bila, Armando Muwane, Americo Kossa, Aurelio Jefe and Mahikwana Makhuvele.
21 tracks of solo and duo performences recorded by Hugh Tracey in the 1950s and wonderfully restored and remastered by Sharp Wood from the originals in the International Library of African Music in South Africa.

Listen:
Alberto Mwamosi and Gabriel Bila
Feliciano Gomes
Americo Kossa and Aurelio Jefe
The record label says:
Aside from Katanga in Congo and the Zambian Copperbelt, southern Mozambique also developed its own distinctive guitar sound in the fifties - the roots of marrabenta. Listen to the enigmatic Feliciano Gomes sing about the problems of getting children, promiscuity of women, snobism, jealousy, the supernatural, enjoy Aurelio Kowano's virtuoso rhythm guitar playing, and others - now no longer forgotten.

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
