| '....A singer/ songwriter/ guitarist originally from the same region of southern Madagascar as - and a contemporary of - D'Gary, his intricate guitar playing shares the same roots in the styles laid down on the local traditional instruments the marovany box zither (showcased here on finger breaking tracks like Agapi Mou and Asio Farany) and the kabosy (influencing the percussive strum of Mamangy )... He has lots of variety in his songwriting and arrangements, mostly multi-tracking himself including the township-like bass on Malala, vocal harmonies and some of the percussion - and his ten year old son contributes some rock-steady katsa shaker on a couple of tracks too. The final one was recorded live at London's Kashmir Club with co-producer David Sanna on nicely understated slide guitar.' - Ian Anderson, fRoots |
