| 'Ghanaian highlife from the early 80s, minimally recorded at John Collins' Bokoor Studio. This isn't so much the plush highlife of preceding years, but more of a homespun and definitely edgy expression if sometimes it gets a bit ragged, verve and good spirit carry the day, and when it really does take off - as frequently happens, notably when F. Kenya's Guitar Band are operating - the effect is turbulent. Various styles are described in Collins' explanatory notes dance band highlife, low-class bush highlife, which evolved into modern guitar band highlife music, which again subdivides into gospel highlife, concert party highlife to accompany morality plays and more roots-based 'cultural' highlife. All are represented here, all recorded in the uncertain, curfewed and dangerous days when Jerry Rawlings' revolutionary forces struggled to dislodge power from the incumbent fat-cat kleptocracy.' Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
