Marianne Maans
Marianne Maans (Swedish Finnish Folk Music Institute)

On her first solo fiddler Marianne Maans demonstrates her deep familiarity with the folk music tradition of the Swedish-speaking region of the Western Finland. Using her wonderful voice, fiddle and jouhikko (strakharpa or bowed harp), Maans solo performances of original and traditional material bring this regional music to life.

Listen:
Mod
Av hjartat.....
Tradel (jouhikko)

Says Maria Kalaniemi, who produced this recording:
Maans' music represents folk music composing today
A musical trip over rocks and roots
Through rough scenery
From thick bushes
To still waters
Into silence.

Marianne Maans plays as part of the trio Ramunder with Maria Kalaniemi and Olli Varis

Finnish fiddler Marianne Maans' first solo album is an excellent portrait of an open-minded musician. While many other fiddlers study old recordings and try to play like the old masters, Maans experiments with her Ostrobothnian roots and tries to find new ways of playing from them... - Staffan Jonsson, RootsWorld

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
