Tactequeté? (Resistencia)

2 discs - CD and DVD
$17.99

A percussion-focused ensemble from Catalonia, Spain that mix music with a wry humor, sometimes subtle, sometimes not. They use marimba, mbira, drums, tuned plastic tubes, hardware, toys, bullroarers and such, add flutes, whistles and other such things for color, use folk, jazz and pop for inspiration, and then pretty much fall into a musical category of their own. The bonus DVD is a concert set, well filmed, subtle and actually a pretty interesting look into the sound making process. DVD is PAL format.

From the record label:
After more than eight years on the road, this band, formerly known as Guaraná, now presents its new show-album-video: tactequequé?

Tactequeté consists of seven eclectic musicians who combine melodies, rhythms and moods using an assortment of mainly wind and percussion instruments within a musical setting that is eminently creative. Deft touches of humour combine with a visually attractive stage setting to make an unlikely musical show. Drums and flutes of varied provenance, instruments made from junk material, day-to-day objects with multiple sound possibilities, steel drums, whistles, basses… even seeds and conch shells help them to create their exotic rhythms, that are full of warmth and colour.

Tactequeté are Marc Vila, Aleix Tobias, Tito Busquets, Xavi Tasies, Antonio Sánchez, Guillem Aguilar and Xavi Lozano. Their only album to date was Guaraná, recorded in 2000. Apart from that, the members have collaborated as sidemen in several other recordings, such as Viva quien sabe querer, by Eliseo Parra; Helloñandú, by Jazz el Destripador; El bolero del Raval, by Marc Martínez, and Razas de la noche by Azucarillo Kings, as well as soundtrack work for the films Sexo por compasión, directed by Laura Más, and Arachnid, directed by Jack Shoulder, both of them with Kiko Gener as composer. They have also played with La Fura dels Baus at the Hannover Expo and other places. Other collaborations have been with the Danzadas dance company, that included music by Tactequeté in its Psyco show, and at the awards ceremony of the Barcelona Erotic Cinema Festival.

Tactequeté's sounds go all the way from rainforest soundscapes to African traditional rhythms, interspersed with funk experiments or simple musical games.

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
