cd cover Caravasar
Alminares Mediterráneos (Resistencia)
$17.99

This Spanish ensemble of strings (ud, violins, guitar, bouzouki), percussion (frame drums, riq, daf, darbuka, etc), winds (ney, flute, clarinet, etc) and keyboards (accordion, piano) presents a decidely modern, all-acoustic approach to new music, bordering on jazz (lots of improvisation) but clearly "from the tradition," whatever that tradition might be (Andalusia, Balkan, Magrebi, Turkish, etc). It's east meets west with no pretense or apology.

The band's official bio:
Caravasar drinks from the water spring which has enriched the Eastern Mediterranean Art Patrimony for centuries. The music played assimilates melodies from a secular tradition and from contemporaneous authors that spread Islamic Culture with a half-breed feeling, a sonorous interchange. Songs from the Balkans, Sufi rhythms from Ottoman Turkey or dances from Magreb villages are recreated and fused with West aesthetic currents. The Project Caravasar proposes and stimulates the understanding and interchanging through mutual and spontaneous language, the marriage between East and West instruments and an impregnated aesthetics from the South. It is an eclectic and luminous sensibility that evokes a time of sonorous sensuality from the Eastern Mediterranean and the dynamism of Western tendencies. Caravasar builds a harmonious compass which a tradition born between both seashores that apparently separated what the language without words of the Music joins and harmonizes.

The Music Show that Caravasar offers has gone through several points of national geography with a living and surprising live show, which connects a rich instrumental variety with a musical technical and a very careful aesthetic on stage, inviting audience to travel with their imagination through a route that has opened a fructiferous dialogue between Ancient Civilizations.

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
