Awen Magic Land
Awen Magic Land (Resistencia)
Carlos Soto (formerly of Celtas Cortos) and Maria Desbordes bring their flutes, whistles, reeds, accordions, bagpipes, and other traditional instruments to the edge of the machine age with a broad use of samplers, electrionics and studio recording to create a Celtic/Spanish music that never becomes mechanized. They certainly owe a debt to the contemporary work of Kepa Junkera, but they move in different worlds even as they utilize similar pallettes. This is a very modern CD, and the traditionalist may balk at the hardware, but I think they handle it with elegance and creative spark.
