ABOUT THE DANCE
".... fourteen pages taken tenderly and affectionately from the great book of Basque music, to satisfy those who prefer the substance and nourishment of the best home cooking".
ABC Newspaper, Spain. .
"...Music with deep roots in yesterday, but wich sounds glorious and fresh". EL MUNDO Newspaper, Spain. .
"..Here Goikoetxea explores the musical roots of Euskadi in one of the most beautiful and rigorous works conceived on the coast of the Cantabrian Sea. This second ALBOKA album searches out age-old dances and ballads, restored with the care and attention of a master craftsman. If this superb musician does not receive the same enthusiastic public reaction as Kepa Junkera, he will have every reason to feel he has been unfairly treated, though saying so may sound unpleasant..." EL PAIS DE LAS TENTACIONES (newspaper) Spain .
Amongst the most ancient purposes of the dance are those of uniting and curing. In the former case, as a catalyst of the community, helping to tighten the social bond and, through initiation, introducing new individual and collective responsibilities. In the latter case, by means of medicinal rites, the dance has periodically sought to cure bodies and souls in the grip of fever and demonic possession caused by insect stings or the coming of the Evil One. Despite its great miraculous qualities, it has nonetheless been scorned by modern society swollen with technology. As a result many striking images have been lost to us, such as the cicada as an excellent violinist, the spider with a picture of a vihuela traced on its abdomen, or the bear and locust, both consummate dancers. For Nature does nothing but sing and dance as it endlessly renews itself. And if we humans have stepped out of the circle, then recovering these sources and renewing these sounds is part of the task of every artist, as the best healer of bodies and souls and the leaven of social renewal. - Juan A.Urbeltz, June1998

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
