Press info:
"We will not find your memory seeking it in history books or great speeches that are nothing but hot air…" These lines from Partigiani fratelli maggiori (older brother Partisans), a song from the post-war period would be reason enough for releasing this CD.

A volte ritornano - cento anni di speranze italiane nel canzoniere popolare (sometimes they come back - one hundred years of Italian hopes in the popular tradition) is the new recording by MAURO PALMAS accompanied here with some of the most important Italian roots music musicians.

This recording is important for musical reasons as well as for social reasons. From the social point of view PALMAS' effort is to give exposure to a tradition that has always been a very significant element of the entire folk repertoire. Music has been always a vehicle to communicate social issues, especially coming for the lower classes. History and historicians (and politicians) tried always to diminished the importance of the social issue of the lower classes (peasants or workers doesn't matter). As Mariangela Sedda points out in the linear notes of the CD school has forgot the last 50 years of history forgetting elements as Fascism and Resistance. It is so very important to let some moments of our history speak out again. Old and new generation are too easily forgetting the past, the recent one especially. This is a very easy way to open the doors to the repletion of the same mistakes.

From the musical point of view equally important is this recording. The band that PALMAS' has assembled for this CD is very impressive. Some of the most important musicians of Sardinian Roots Music and jazzmen from the continent (Italy). The result is a music that is never rhetoric, with humor and passion, able to surprise the listeners in many ways (listen the very legendary Resistance song Bella Ciao in a Manouche version). The text have a strength that avoid the usual nostalgic approach but maintains the original impact of the songs, from the dramatic version of Cassisio Agghja 'intu, very well rendered by the voice of Elena Ledda to the joyful unconsciousness of the younger fighters for the freedom of Garibaldi's army sung in Camicia Rossa.

A Volte ritornano is an important legacy to the next generation and a beautiful homage to the some of the most important social songs of the Italian history.

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
