Based in Le Marche, a region in Central Italy on the Adriatic Sea that faces the former Jugoslavia, the band presents a repertoire of songs from their homeland, songs that have been the subject of the group’s continuing researches.
Vene il sabado..., is LA MACINA’s first recording, a record on which the re-discovery of traditional roots not only provides an important new way of understanding our past but also helps to illuminate our contemporary world since the music is often married to political ideas. The recording clearly demonstrates the fascination that ethnomusicological research held for a whole generation of musicians, A fascination that would launch a fashion, the Folk Revival genre that after being briefly forgotten in the 90s has now become part of the charming, chaotic and somewhat disorganized (but for this reason lively and creative) musical melting pot that goes by the name of World Music.
The CD contains 11 tracks, some of which are structured like a kind of suite, running two or more songs together. The repertoire includes medieval ballads (La cena della sposa, Donna lombarda), modern songs (Mariuccia a mme mme gela..., Valzer risaltato), songs both licentious and erotic (Saltarello) and political (Io vado in filandra), as well as nursery rhymes (L'anatra, C'era una volta Caterina...) and ritual melodies (La pasquella). The vocal and instrumental techniques are highly traditional and are strictly related to the typical features of the local tradition, and it is from these roots that the band has been able to draw the great energy and strength that marks this recording.
All in all Vene il sabado e vene il venere…is undoubtedly one of the best folk music albums of the 80s, a work that deserves re-discovery.

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
