Alguímia includes ten songs written by various song-writers. Each song is filled with the traditional elements of Alghero that Franca Masu performs alongside many musicians, who are some of the best players of their instruments. Double-bass, accordion, mandolas, percussions, classic guitar, cello, ud and cajon, are some of the instruments that produce the clear and familiar sound of this region.
The pure and passionate voice of FRANCA MASU comes through in this production and seems aimed directly at the listener’s heart. The album contains melodies filled with emotions which are deep-rooted in feelings such as love, loss, melancholy, joy; melodies which seem easy and pleasant but are always proud and never taken for granted. This is also due to the great work of the musicians, especially Mauro Palmas an extraordinary mandola player, Salvatore Maltana on double bass, the guitar player Peo Alfonsi and the Catalan percussion player, Andreu Ubach, from Olot, Catalunya.
In some ways Alguímia symbolises the blending of cultures, from North to South, from the East to the West, that characterise the Mediterranean feeling that Alghero, in particular, represents.
Alguímia is the second album by the Sardinian singer FRANCA MASU. The collection explores and celebrates Alghero’s language and musical history and sounds quite different from the jazz-flavoured El meu viatge, her first album released in 2001.
