Aranis Aranis (artist release) $17.99 This Flemish band has a very personal, idiosyncratic approach to music. The seven musicians explore sound and technique on their instruments (bass, violins, accordion, flute, piano and guitar), resulting in a muted minimalism with a post-rock energy, with references to folk and contemporary classical idioms. Chaotic structures and virtuoso crescendos alternate with serene intervals.

Listen: Indrigo Jona Vuur Yosu About the musicians: Joris Vanvinckenroye: Contrabassist and composer (and sometimes also naturist) The major part of Aranis’ oeuvre is written by Joris, musician in body and soul. His personality – together with his instrument – is the foundation of our work. His performance embodies passion; his music is sparkling and reflects his preference for different genres and groupings. Joris is part of the world of improvisation and plays in more than one prominent groupings. Linde de Groof: Violinist. Her music combines pure poetry with gipsy melancholia. The strings play an important role in our music; the sounds of violins, contrabass and accordion blend flowingly without losing its creativity. The tones of the strings define the sound of the whole group; the colors and possibilities of the violins are put to the fore. Liesbeth Lambrecht: Violinist. Liesbeth has a contagious sense of timing. She owes her precision to her classical education, just like the other members of Aranis. Not only precision, but also teamwork and ensemble have become part our life, thanks to this classical schooling. This off course doesn’t mean that Aranis’ oeuvre is traditional: all members of the group are constantly looking after new sounds and techniques with there instruments. Marjolein Cools: Accordionist and powered paraglider pilot Marjolein doesn’t only fly in the air, but also over the keys of her instrument. It’s impossible to imagine Aranis without her power. Marjolein and her accordion represent an important part of Aranis’ volume and tone. Accordion means “real power”. Jana Arns: Flautist and jack-of-all-trades We cherish Jana because of her versatility and her enthusiasm. She also takes care about the visual aspects of Aranis. The sound of her instrument gives Aranis a very special glow. Jana shows us what a flute really sounds like! Axelle Kennes: Piano player and mountaineer. Axelle climbs up mountains and sometimes also her music-stool to pluck the strings of her piano. The piano often embodies both rhythmical power and lyrical romance. Axelle knows very well that Aranis means “strength”. ”A feeling is the medley of passion and euphoria”… That is her device. Stijn Denys: Guitarist Stijn has taken his serenity and sense of detail from the Far East. His passion for flamenco, which is a great stimulus to improvise in rhythm and color, comes from Spain. The diversity in sound and timbre of this instrument turns every pause into a fascinating happening.
