Budiman Uun and the Jugula Gamelan Orchestra
Banondari: New Directions in Jaipongan (Felmay)
17.99
The vocalist and her ensemble present Jaipongan, a relatively recent style of music in Indonesia that emerged in the 1960s as a fusion of traditional gamelan-type music and more pop-oriented forms, creating a completely unique contemporary form. Budinam Uun started by singing for puppet theatres, then recorded five albums with the Karawang Group. She was asked to join the well-known Jugala Orchestra led by Gugum Gumbira, one of the innovators of the new form. The ensemble accompanies her on this, her debut solo effort.
