Solo Cissokho’s previous release was recently named last year’s World Music Album of the Year by the BBC and its audience. One of the world’s most prominent kora players collaborates with Norwegian and African musicians. The mbalax (pronounced mballah) style is a type of African music or rhythm that is as popular in Africa as pop music is in Europe. Mbalax is played at discotheques, at club concerts and on the radio, as well as at traditional ceremonies, christenings, weddings and funerals. Dancing is always an integral part of the music.
The music of Cissokho System is based on this style, and the group’s trademark sound is inspired by the hip rhythms and melodious vocal lines of mbalax. The members of the group have their backgrounds in African music, jazz, pop and Norwegian folk music.
Solo Cissokho, Kossa Diomande and Aliou Cissokho are all among the foremost African musicians who live and perform in Europe. Harald Skullerud, Olav Torget and Tonny Kluften played in other African bands for many years before Cissokho System was founded. Together they have created a cohesive, energetic, and unique CD. If you are interested in pulsating, vibrant world music from Africa and Norway, this is where you can find it.

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
