Christer Bothen and Bolon Bata
TranceDance (Xource/Resonans)
One the new Resonans imprint from MNW records, this is a numbered edition (limited to 1000 copies) digipack of a classic recording. Bolon Bata with Christer Bothén (Archimedes Badkar) and Bosse Skoglund (Arbete and Fritid, Fläsket Brinner). Moving between classic Afrobeat and avant garde Swedish jazz, this is a unique recording with an unusual perspective.
Press release from the label:
Christer Bothen - playing both tenor-and sopranosaxaphone, base clarinet, piano, Dozo n'koni (a harp from Mali) and Guinbri (a Maroccan lute) - was tutored by different musicians in West- and North Africa. Out of what he learned, he formed Bolon Bata in the early 80's together with Bosse Skoglund on drums.
The first album, "Trancedance", was released in 1984, influenced by music from all over the world and several different genres, before people had even started talking about world music. The African tones are the most distinctive ones, but you can also clearly hear jazz influences, since several of the band members originally played in jazz bands. The music could be described as hypnotizing and overwhelming.
MNW RESONANS - A newly-started label for releases from MNW:s unique record-collection
MNW was established in 1969 and has since then released 20-30 albums every year, which means that there are about 1000 titles in the catalouge. However, thanks to acquisition from other companies and labels, the current number of titles has increased to a bit more than 1500.
The catalogue is a unique treasure of culture, containing an incredibly wide range of music; rock, pop, jazz, folk music, avantgard and progressive. There are of course some albums in the catalogue that may be slightly less popular, but at the same time interesting as collectables or for minorities. There are a lot of records that are still listenable even though they were not written yesterday. Records with individuality and artistic and musical qualities which last just as well as traditional classics. Records that in a unique way tell us about its time. Productions that show that MNW has dared to take initiatives and stand out, but also enjoyed confidence for its integrity and way of working.
The work of making this, or parts of it, available has lead us to collect more odd and unique releases and republications in an exclusive series of limited editions that we have chosen to call MNW Resonans.

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
