Bazar Blå is a trio consisting of nyckelharp-player Johan Hedin,
bassist Björn Meyer and percussionist Fredrik Gille. The group was
formed in 1996, and their debut album 'Nordic City' was recorded over the course of a few weeks during the summer of 1998 in a small cottage in the lush and rolling dales of Dalarna; surely one of Sweden's most inspiring settings. After mixing a final form at Fred's Kitchen in September, the album is ready for release. Bazar Blå have one foot firmly planted deep in the Swedish loam and the other eagerly edging out the door toward new frontiers. Discerning listeners will be sure not to miss the homegrown soul of their sound, which is complemented by the wide-ranging turns they meld into each piece. All their original compositions bear the unique signature of well-woven instrumentation, which creates a diversely textured soundscape.
Danish world music magazine Djembe: "There is an intense sense of joy that emanates from their playing, it fills the gig space and
presses out into the corners". (Falun 1997)
Swedish folk and world music magazine Lira: "The weekend's biggest event was, however, the young trio Bazar Blå". (Umeå 1998)
Johan Hedin is a composer and folk musician from Småland. He is also an accomplished virtuoso recitalist and improvisationalist. Having begun to play the bowed harp at the age of twelve, he has since immersed himself in the 'spelman' (Swed. = folk player) tradition, which being an oral tradition is a rare merit. In 1992 he was named riksspelman (a national recognition of excellence in the folk tradition). His work with expression and tone go hand in hand with his passion for developing the bowed harp as an instrument, which has done much to foster his conviction for playing only instruments of his own construction. These all have tremendous range of tone and vary in size in accordance to register (from bass to soprano).
1993-94 Toured with EMI artist Milla Jovovich in England and America
1997 Scored Daniel Bergman's TV documentary "Förhörsledarna"
Presently studying composition at the Royal Conservatory in
Stockholm
Aside from Bazar Blå, he is also a member of Triptyk, Trio Patrekatt and performs under his own name with a five-piece ensemble
1998 During Stockholm's EU Cultural Capitol Year, he played with the
Stockholm Folk Big Band under the batons of Ale Möller and Jonas
Knutsson
Björn Meyer is an electric bassist born and raised in Stockholm. He has been a free lance musician since 1989, covering everything from pop (via folk music) to improvisation. Between the years 1989-95, Björn was a member of the group Hatuey, which, along with some visits to Cuba, afforded him a strong feeling for Afro-Cuban jazz. Since 1991, Björn has also been a member of the Erik Steen Flamenco Fusion, which unites flamenco, jazz and Latin American music. More recently, Björn has toured with the Swiss flamenco dancer Nina Corti and her Nina Corti Ensemble, as well as the Spanish flamenco guitarist José Luis Monton. Björn treats his instrument with inimitable elegance, imagination and an endearing sense of humor. Rhythm is the center of his style, and he feels himself driven to finding new ways of expressing rhythms, melodies and harmony in a way that allows for maximal technical variations.
Fredrik Gille is a percussionist from Eskilstuna, who moved to Stockholm in 1992. For the past two years he has also been a member of Erik Steen Flamenco Fusion. Having played freelance for a while now, his résumé includes work with Hot Salsa, Rhythm Real, Infinite Mass, Claes Jansson, Dive, Mynta, E-Type, Bo Kaspers Orkestra, which allows him to move easily from pop to classical, incorporating percussion instruments and techniques from all over the world. While in India, Fredrik learned to play the tabla. His playing can be typified as melodious, responsive and full of irresistible swing.

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
