Tradicionàrius 2004 (2 CD set)
$18.99
This double CD includes recordings by the bands that played in the festival in 2004, some live recordings, some studio. A good introduction to a rich and diverse musical traditions represented at this festival in Barcelona, from the Arabic flavoured tunes of Al-Mayurqa (Balearic Islands) to the ancient Pyrinees mountains traditional songs recuperated by El Pont d'Arcalís, Spanish bands (La Musgaña, Les Violines, El Grup De Folk), Finnish (Wimme) and Italian (Le Gesppe, from l'Alghero where Catalan is still spoken). Most of these artists are new to me, so they will probably be new to you, as well.
Sadly, the notes are woefully inadequate (not even countries of origin listed), but the music is great and you can track these individual artists down yourself once you get hooked.
30 tracks on 2 CDs.

The label says:
Sometime's easy to get confused and think world and roots music is becoming more and more popular. It's even easy to suppose music industry will soon be deeply interested in this field and actually to believe this so well-sounding phrase that says "traditional music is the new revolution". That's what it happens if you read some fixed magazines or attend some specific festivals in which get in touch with music and musicians from all around the world. But reality is different. Reality says globalization doesn't means diversity but uniformity. ¿What's there outside the mainstream? Nothing, just nothing. Well-meaning purposes but with low capacity to reach the target: Discovering the amazing and great music you can listen all around the world.
Because of this situation is such important and laudable the work of festivals like the Tradicionàrius, which was born seventeen years ago in Barcelona with the aim of promoting, popularize and preserve traditional music made in all the Catalan speaking territories.
For four months a year, from January to April, all kinds of roots music bands took the stage on a weekly basis in a plural view which tries to include as many sides of traditional music as possible. Intercalated with the concerts there's workshops, master classes for young people, dance lessons and lots of activities to help people get in touch with a music that, in spite of being so close seems to be completely hidden.
This double album includes recordings from the shows played by the bands in the festival. Doubtless a perfect introduction to a rich and diverse musical tradition which comprises from the Arabic flavoured tunes of Al-Mayurqa (Balearic Islands) to the ancient Pyrinees mountains traditional songs recuperated by El Pont d'Arcalís, Spanish bands (La Musgaña, Les Violines, El Grup De Folk), Finnish (Wimme) and Italian (Le Gesppe, from l'Alghero where Catalan is still spoken).

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
