Kytytsi (Koka Records)
$18.99

Remarkable contemporary music from Ukraine by this unique singer and musician (pump organ, piano, keyboards and flute) and her small ensemble of guitars, percussion and cello. Minimal and sparse arrangements produce a surprisingly rich and textured work.

Press from the label:
Svitlana made her debut with Kyiv's band called “Tsukor Bila Smert”. “Kytytsi" is Svitlana's very first solo album. The aura of her voice and the simplicity of her compositions suggest folk roots. However, its base is in fact derived from the musical avant-garde of today. Straight from the heart of ancient folk songs comes the tenderness in her voice; Svitlana frames it with sounds of pure minimalism.

Deeply rooted in primeval myths, her music creates a world of magic realism, in which the temporal dimension and the other world constantly move and permeate.

Great music that comes in a unique package designed by Ukrainian artist Andriy Marushechko features rough hewn papers, small art prints inserted in paper sleeves and a beautiful gatefold package to hold it all. A work of art inside a work of art. Read more about Koka CDs.

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
