Iver Kleive's original compositions are the center of focus on this one (only five of the thirteen tracks come from traditional sources). Kleive's keyboards (church organ, Hammond B3, a grand piano and synthesizers) are acompanied by an interesting ensemble, notably percussion from Paolo Vinaccia on all tracks; Knut Reiersrud guests on three and there are vocal solos and chorales on a number of tracks as well. It's a quirky work that veers from classical choir music to modern pop, from jazz to pure folkiness and then back. Music Fra Hybridene - Farmers Market $18.99 (cdRoots# kkv-farmers-hybridene)
'Musikk fra Hybridene (Music from the Hybrid Islands) has the greatest comedy to music ratio of any album I've heard released by seriously talented musicians. This second CD manages to play off of all aspects of culture, including those the listener might be way too familiar with and is a wonderful start for the more general music listener. However, just as many contemporary Bulgarian traditional orchestras and wedding bands have added synthesizer to smooth out the inherent jaggedness (Pepsodental toothiness?) of the Bulgarian sound, FM's older CD's have taken frequent humorous detours poking fun at Bulgarian, Scandi, Western pop, even jazz musical culture...' - Don Weeda, RootsWorld
 Den Blå Gleda - Sondre Bratland $17.99 (cdRoots# kkv-43)
The Norwegian singer is joined by Roar Engelberg (pan flute), Iver Kleive (organ), Malgorzata Mulewska Sundberg (harp).
 Soul of a Man - Knut Reiersrud $17.99 (cdRoots# kkv-soul)
The Norwegian guitarist's 1998 take on soul, blues and gospel is, as always distinctive and surprising. Always a step ahead, Knut employed samples of legendary blues performances together with rock-solid band of Paolo Vinaccia, Auden Erlien, Bugge Wesseltoft and Reidar Skår. The album is more of a band album with Knut's electric guitar virtuosity in focus. Three of the songs were written exclusively for him by Mac Rebenack and the late Doc Pomus, and the most convincing song on the recording, the title track, is an original. Completely unique and different.

 Ludo - Bendik Hofseth, Anne-Lise Berntsen, Helge Iberg $18.99 (cdRoots# kkv-192)
A strange and challenging recording by three Norwegian artists - jazz saxophonist, classical singer and innovative keyboardist/programmer. 'Dramatic verve and delicate beauty intertwines. This chamber musical play is intelligent, inspired, and captivating. Once you subject this recording to the cerebellum, chances are it will take over the entire brain. If you swear to pure music, a CD like this would serve as a source for the most delightful vexation!' - C. Terje Mosnes, Dagbladet, Norway

 Drag - Susanne Lundeng $17.99 (cdRoots# kkv-drag)
The Norwegian fiddler's 1994 recording is one of my personal favorites, for it's high energy and great ensemble work. Accompanied mostly by accordion, organ, percussion and acoustic bass, the arrangements leave her lots of room for great playing and interesting interplay with her compatriots.

Once again he and Reidar Skår romp in the playground of sampling and loops.

Vals til den rode fela - Susanne Lundeng $17.99 (cdRoots# kkv-lundeng-vals)
Susanne Lundeng's fourth album, "Vals til den røde fela," is above all a lyrical album, with a great deal of character and a form of expression that Susanne Lundeng keeps on developing. On this recording Susanne has composed all the music herself. Her particular form is deeply rooted in traditional music, but also gathers inspiration and elements from other genres. This is a purely instrumental recording. There are elements of both jazz and rock, and also sense the resonance and musical openness that characterizes contemporary music.
