Please note!
Most of our CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. I guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
Thanks- Cliff, cdRoots

Gössa Anders Andersson, Gössa Anna Andersson, Orsa Fiddlers' Ensemble / If you ask Swedish folk musicians of today about major influences, one man who is often mentioned is Gössa Anders Andersson (1878-1963) from Orsa in Dalarna. Orsa has a strong and special fiddling tradition, and Gössa Anders was its foremost exponent. He paid great attention to rhythm, and his intonation was precise, including the many blue notes. This recording is a remastering of a number of 78's recorded in 1950. Most of the tunes are played solo by Gössa Anders, but on eight tracks he is backed by his daughter Gössa Anna. Orsa Fiddlers' Ensemble, of which Gössa Anders was musical leader, is heard on four tunes. Altogether the best way to get to know the beautiful world of Orsa polskas.

Pastoral music from Malung
- Historical Recordings of Swedish Folk Music III
$17.99
(cdRoots# cda-krcd26)
The pastoral music of Sweden is a unique tradition with ancient roots, yet was still in common use as an integral part of working life on many pastures in Dalarna in the 1950's and 60's. Typical of this music is the singing style called kulning, which is without words, and sung in a high register. This CD contains field recordings from Malung in west Dalarna, made in the 1960's and 70's, and they clearly transmit the magic of this music. Some of them are unique in that they are so long, and contain communication in kulning between two singers. There are also a few songs with words connected to herding, and tunes played on wooden whistle, cow's horn and fiddle.

Claude Debussy
- Marie Bengtsson
$special order
(cdRoots# cda-krcd29)
Marie Bengtson received her soloist diploma in 1984. She has performed as a soloist, with chamber groups and as an accompanist in Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Marie says: I am fascinated by Debussy's ability to use tones and sounds to paint the colours of nature and convey its moods registering all its nuances of varying light, the elusiveness and boundlessness of it all... Although this is virtuoso music of the highest degree, the listener hardly notices it. The mood is very relaxing and the beauty of Debussy's music is striking. The recording is made with fine vintage valve microphones, contributing to a rarely soft and beautiful piano sound. Performances: Suite Bergamasque, Arabesque No.1, Estampes and Nocturne.
