Régis Gizavo, Louis Mhlanga, David Mirandon
Stories (Marabi)
$17.99
Malagasy accordionist Régis Gizavo, South African guitarist Louis Mhlanga and French percussionist David Mirandon join in a beautiful, subtle recording of shared roots and diverse interests. It's all trio arrangements, with vocals by Gizavo and Mhlanga and no additional instrumentation, and the rich and dynamic sound is a testament to their musicianship. Highly recommended.

| Take three exceptional and experienced session musicians - one Malagasy accordeonist, one South African guitarist and one French percussionist - who you've brought together to play on a new Mahotella Queens record, and stick them in the studio afterwards for "a friendly and happy jam session," as Marabi's Christian Mousset just described it in an email. Well, for a start the extraordinary tightness of their playing makes it sound like a hard working regular band. Admittedly Régis Gizavo and David Mirandon are a regular live pairing, and there are a few revisits on here like the barnstorming 'Eka Lahy' from Gizavo's own recordings, but the general level of telepathy is really remarkable, even on the more obviously jammed pieces like the bustling 'International Rumba' and 'Stories.' Nicely recorded too by Gizavo and Mirandon's regular sound man Manou Gallet, with a pleasing roundness that's perfectly suited to the ensemble sound: busy but light and warm. Highly recommended. - Ian Anderson, fRoots |

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
