Marina Rossell
Cap al Cel (World Village Records)
$17.99

Rossell is rediscovering the great old songs of Catalan and reinterpreting them with a unique vision, a deep respect of the old ways and one foot solidly in the future. Accompanied by a small acoustic ensemble, she sings these songs with a freshness and vitality that is subtle, charming and occasionally disarming.

Listen:
1. La Santa Espina
2. Mare de Deu del Mon
3. Virolai

"There's not a false step on Cap Al Cel. The listener walks away feeling privileged to have been taken into Rossell's confidence." - Peggy Latkovich, RootsWorld (read the full review)

Press info:
With her album Cap al Cel, singer-songwriter Marina Rossell has single-handedly revived the great tradition of Catalan songs of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Rossell’s songs have roots in the traditional, but they emerge here sounding fresh and new, coupling her respect for the past with a thoroughly modern view. These are delicious songs that the voice of Marina Rossell, clear, respectful and personal, saves from oblivion. Some had been abandoned, forgotten in the attic and covered with dust. Cleansed by Marina’s delicate voice, they have a new and forceful identity. Born in Gornal (Region of Penedès, near Barcelona), Marina Rossell has published more than 13 records since starting her professional career in 1976. She has collaborated with such diverse artists as Georges Moustaki, Montserrat Caballé and the Flamenco guitarist Tomatito.

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
