While Kurdish and Persian music are historically related, each has formed a unique path of development since ancient times. In the Mirror Sky of the Sky features kamancheh (spike fiddle) virtuoso Kayhan Kalhor and musician/singer Ali Akbar Moradi on the Kurdish tanbur, an ancient instrument long associated with Sufi mysticism. Together, they improvise on Kurdish modes, creating a borderless music, sometimes accompanied by percussionist Pejman hadidi on tombak.
