Catalan Gypsy music has been largely influenced by Cuban music - the Compay Segundo song 'Sarandonga' has become so assimilated into Gypsy repertoire (as an essential wedding song) that few in Catalunya are aware of its Cuban origins. It is this song that provided the basis for this meeting of famed Cuban traditionalists Familia Valera Miranda from Santiago, Cuba with the Catalan Gypsy Tato (once leader of Tekameli, now of Kaloomé) and the flamenco singer/dancer Sabrina Romero. Ida y Vuelta, 'there and back,' explores the trans-migration of songs and musical ideas between Cuba and Spain.
