This disc is a celebration of Catalan singer Marina Rossell's nearly three decade career. It's a shiny-clean remastering of eleven songs dating back as far as 1976. Two things become obvious while listening to Marítim. One is that Rossell's talent has not diminished over the years. Her voice still has the same clarity and economy of phrasing that it did twenty-eight years ago. The other is that, stylistically, she has the good taste not to reach beyond her grasp. She chooses arrangements that make the most of her gentle, unassuming voice. The disc ping-pongs back and forth over her career rather than going in chronological order, but her consistency of style makes the order irrelevant. She duets with Santiago Auserón on "Rosó (Pel Teu Amor)," with Marc Parrot on "Una Illa És," and with Miguel Poveda on "Queda't de mi Alguna Cosa," showing herself to be a sensitive collaborator. Most of the tracks have a tender, emotive quality, which makes the final track, "Els Segadors (The Reapers)" from 2003's Inčdita, a rewarding surprise. Its defiant sweep puts a satisfying end to the collection. For those who may not have heard Rossell, this is a fine introduction to an illustrious career. - Peggy Latkovich, RootsWorld

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
