Nicknamed 'La Negra' because of her African origins, she is the leading proponent of the urban version of the son jarocho from the Mexican province of Veracruz. The thirty eight strings of La Negra's harp accompany her sensitive singing where Spanish poetry blends together with Caribbean flavored rhythms. She improvises with wit and virtuosity and her songs celebrate the joys and sorrows of life in Veracruz.
