Izaline Calister
Krioyo (Network)
Izaline Calister comes from the small island of Curaçao in the southern Caribbean, where, like most places, local music traditions have been influenced by many outside sources; here, it is African, European and Caribbean. Calister's mix of Caribbean roots with jazz, pop and touches of modern art music is unique, contrasting gentle ballads with powerful, rhythmic songs, focused on a voice of great competence and character.

Press from the artist:
A highly talented singer, composer and lyricist with a distinctive personal musical style. A charismatic performer, she can be at times warm and intimate, then again expressive and extroverted, masterfully weaving together the traditional music of her native island, Curaçao (Dutch Caribbean), with Jazz. Izaline possesses the exceptional gift that makes all the difference for a soloist, as she sings in her mother tongue, Papiamentu, with feeling and grace. She has this ability to remain true to her roots and successfully reach out and conquer audiences around the world singing in an unfamiliar language, while melding seamlessly the pulsating rhythms of Afro-Antilles music with Jazz.

"With a complete understanding and feel for the music of the country of her birth, Curacao, and a love for jazz, vocalist Izaline Calister explodes on the musical scene as a remarkable tour de force! Her CD collection, whether sung in English or Papiamento, comes across as entertaining world jazz with Latin influences. Since 1997, she has performed with the German ensemble, ‘The Dissidenten.’ Calister has a voice that can be both sensual and sensitive, and she never misses a note! A very fluid voice, she has a wide range." - Jazz Review "Izaline Calister is a highly talented singer, composer and Iyricist with a distinctive personal musical style. Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
