Wendo Kolosoy
Amba
Recorded in Kinshasa with his band, the Victoria Bakalo Miziki, Kolosoy offers another dose of near-perfect Congolese rumba.

record label press:
Wendo Kolosoy, one of the great pioneers of Congolese rumba returns with Amba — a new album of infectious dance music. Amba was recorded last year in Kinshasa and released in Europe during Fall 2002 on the Marabi label. Kolosoy’s 1997 album Marie Louise (Indigo LBLC 2561) marked his comeback after many years of silence during the Mobutu regime. The title track of that album is a remake of Wendo’s 1936 pan African hit single, which was rumored to wake the dead when played at midnight. When listening to this music, you get the feeling that you’re hearing the sound of Africa from another time. With Amba, Papa Wendo has clearly returned to the form that made him famous in the 30’s and 40’s.

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
