From the liner notes: Esma Redzepova is a superstar throughout Eastern Europe and the Balkans and she is the leading ambassador of Macedonian Gypsy culture to the world. Her heart-rending voice is powerful and unique and the exuberance of her live performances is legendary. Redzepova's story is a truly astonishing one. She has been performing since the age of twelve and over her forty year career she has released 586 works on record, cassette and CD, whilst also acting in several films. Since meeting her mentor (and later her husband) Stevo Teodosievski, their ensemble became one of the most popular in the Balkans. Together they have raised forty-seven adopted children, many of whom have since played in the Ensemble Teodosievski. In 2002, Redzepova was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and she has also been praised by UNICEF for her extraordinary humanitarian efforts. Her fame has spread now to such an extent that she has become known simply as 'Queen of the Gypsies.' On Network's new disc Gypsy Carpet, Redzepova sings spirited and ballad-like songs about the longings and the fate of Roma women. Her songs portray the beauty, power and tragedy that is so characteristic of Gypsy music.

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
