What the Armenian percussionist calls 'avant garde folk' is a rich mix of contemporary and traditional music from Armenian and Anatolia, full of references to modern classical, jazz and ancient arts from the rest of the world. Local in reference, but global in scope.
The musicians:
The artist says:
I don't give direction to anybody, I let you imagine yourself, but what I try to give you is Love, Respect and Truth. I believe that trust in one of the simplest forms of wealth in this world. This is what we need.
For me, I see life as many spiritual tracks. As you see me today, I am the picture of my spirit; looking for tomorrow's picture. I am simple like water and deep like water.
When I imagined the Armenian Navy Band, I was looking for people who accepted eachother without any boundaries. I knew this quality existed within my culture.
When we found each other, I felt young enough to have hope yet old enought to survive; knowing I had more confidence in them than they had of themselves. With patience, I was able to describe what experience means " memorize and remember at the right time" Of course it was my responsibility to explain how to see with one's ears, how to speak with one's eyes and how to listen with one's mouth. With that thought we started this music that I call "Avant-Garde Folk". That is, "Without losing your identity, you can extend your imagination with your experiences."
When I named the band - The Armenian Navy Band - many people did not understand the meaning. The meaning represents the person who moved out of his native foundation by force or not by force to show how to be part of the world without losing their identity, ideology and confidence. Our ideology is to create trust between people. If you have love, respect and honesty in your ideology, I think you can move the boat without water.
The places we've been to, the people have accepted us with open hearts. They have become our water. Without them our boat would never move. I really would like to thank everyone for that and we welcome those who want to be part of our life.
Also I really want to thank everyone who was involved with this project. - Arto Tunçboyaciyan

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
