cd cover Geitungen
Bra kast! (Heilo)
$17.99

A trio of fiddle, guitar and accordion from Rogaland in southwest Norway plays the traditional music of the region with straight-forward, youthful energy and a minimum of hyp and fusion. Håvard Ims (accordion), Vidar Stefán Berntsson Skrede (fiddle and hardanger) and Olav Christer Rossebø (guitar, mandolin, mandola) play it to-the-bone, from driving dances to delicate tunes.

What the band says about themselves.

Viðar is from Haugesund, lives in Oslo and plays hardanger fiddle, fiddle, whistles and guitar.

Olav Christer is also from Haugesund and lives in Oslo, plays fiddle, mandolin, mandola and guitar.

Håvard is from Sandnes, lives in Bergen, and plays the accordeon/box. He has been Norwegian champion several times on the accordeon...! The first time we all met and played together where in Stavanger in January 1997 on a session of the Youth Club of Rogaland. Viðar and Olav Christer were old friends and had played often together. Since then the three of us have played together as a band every where, both for dancing and concerts.

We play mainly tunes from Rogaland and Southern Norway, but also a handfull of tunes from over the ocean. Quite many of our tunes are selfmade inspired of different styles and traditions. The arrangements we make simple and rough - trying to find a modern expression, but even bringing with us our musical roots.

We play and have played at different arrangements, concerts, festivals, dances, private occations as weddings, and so on... Press form the record label:
At long last - a new recording of folk music from Rogaland county! The group Geitungen present music from their native region of Norway. They perform instrumental folk music from Bjerkreim, Suldal, Jelsa and even from Karmøy, presented in youthful and rhythmically attractive arrangements. At the same time they manage to retain a strong impression of the distinctive Rogaland music tradition. On BRA KAST you can hear arrangements of traditional dance tunes indigenous to the Rogaland region, a bridal march, and newly composed pieces. Geitungen have existed since 1997 and have given numerous concerts and appeared at festivals all over Norway.

On their new recording BRA KAST Geitungen demonstrate that they are among the leading performers of folk music from Rogaland today. The recording brings the Norwegian folk music tradition into the present in a unique way.

The three young musicians who make up Geitungen are:
Håvard Ims (22) from Sandnes, winner of the national Norwegian accordion competition, currently studying medicine in Bergen.
Olav Christer Rossebo (24) from Haugesund, guitarist and mandolin player, currently studying music at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo.
Vidar S.B. Skrede (24) from Haugesund, plays Hardanger fiddle, violin and guitar, currently working at the Folk Music Archives in North Gudbrandsdal. Commencing studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music this autumn.

Geitungen offer a vibrant, living performance, bringing a breath of fresh air to old traditions!

Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
