Press release from the band:
The period following their cultural participation in the 1994 Winter Olympics In Lillehammer, the group has been quiet, brewing. They have appeared on stage occasionally with a tune, to remind the world that it can pay to wait, because the best is yet to come!
And now they are ready for the 3rd verse: HONNDALSTAUSENE are now mature women, and with FRIE FORMER (FREE FORMS) they prove that there is still sparkle and vitality in their musical creativity as well as the sympathetic strings of their fiddles. Their repertoire has predominately been passed down to them from female tradition-bearers. All seven group members have female fiddlers among their ancestors. The tunes are polished and freshened; arrangements are appropriate to the new millenium. HONNDALSTAUSENE, "the wenches of Hornindal", means creativity, lush, vigorous appeal and flirting with tradition. With a consistently vital musical expression. These women know their folk music, and they know how to make old gold shine. The result is free forms, with unmistakable character and an elegant feminine touch.
A new generation of nordfjord-girls has been invited to join them in studio for several of the tunes. "TauseCompagniet" is Norway's largest female spelemannslag/fiddle group. It's time to listen and jump into the dance!
With FRIE FORMER (FREE FORMS) the women fiddlers group Honndalstausene return with vim and vigor to the front of the folkmusic recording scene. The saga began in 1983, when a group of girls playing traditional fiddle in the Nordfjord tradition began improvising together for fun. In a wink they won the hearts of all folk music Norway. This first verse ended i 1988 with the recording called HONNDALSTAUSENE, which resulted in a nomination for Spellemannprisen (Norwegian Grammy-award), as well as honor and trophies at multiple contests and festivals. Then followed several years of playing for dances, concerts and radio/tv programs, both at home and abroad. This female ensemble provided unique, distinctive color and character to Norwegian folk music of the day. By 1992 the girls, now young women, could celebrate their second gift to the public: a recording called STRENGELEIK (Playful strings).
