The music of the Chateau Neuf Spelemannslag is firmly rooted in Norwegian traditions, and the performers have studied with several well-known and respected folk musicians and dancers. After learning the melodies by ear, the members of the Spelemannslag develop the arrangements collectively. The non-traditional orchestration gives the band its unique sound; along with the singers and traditional instruments like the fiddle, hardanger fiddle, the accordeon and a Norwegian type of recorder, one hears saxophone, clarinet, oboe, electric bass, guitar, piano and percussion. In addition the performers bring experiences with classical, jazz, rock and pop music into the Spelemannslag. The result is a captivating mix of traditional and modern sounds and grooves.
Since 1994 Chateau Neuf Spelemannslag has been hailed by both audiences and the press as one of the most exciting new bands in Norway. The band has performed at many folk and jazz festivals in Norway, Germany and Sweden and appears frequently on Norwegian television.
