de Fries & D. Beck
Balance
Tove de Fries- fiddle
Malene D. Beck - piano.
Tove and Malene have been an active part of the Danish Folk Music scene for many years. They formed the duo "de Fries & D. Beck, through a love and respect for the music and dance traditions of Denmark. Balance is their debut-CD and includes traditional melodies from the various regions of Denmark, with several selections from the repertoire of Niels de Fries (Tove's father) from western Jutland.
Tove also performs in the group Baltinget and Malene with Instinkt, both popular groups in Denmark that represent more contemporary traditions.

The artists say:
Tove's father, Niels de Fries was a traditional fiddler who played for numerous dances throughout Jutland. Tove travelled to many of these dances and eventually began to play with her father. Malene has known several traditional players during her life. The fiddler Viggo Gade, from north of Jutland, was a part of her daily life as a child. With this innocent introduction to this music they both developed a natural ability, and a natural affinity for the great old Danish dance music.
The repertoire of "de Fries and D.Beck" includes Polkas, Mazurkas, Waltzes, Sonderhonings, Hopsas, Menuets and Hamborgers, collected from the various regions of Jutland. Many of their melodies were learned by Tove from the repertoire of her father.
"de Fries and D.Beck" are currently performing for dances, concerts and workshops throughout Denmark, and abroad.
Fiddler Tove de Fries and piano player Malene D. Beck first performed as a duo in 2001. During this time Malene was teaching at the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music (on the Isle of Fyen), where Tove was a student. Here they discovered that as traditional players they had a great deal in common. Throughout their youth they were both introduced to some of Denmark's finest traditional musicians.

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
