The artist says:
"These concerts were called "Concierto Aniversario" (anniversary concerts), as my first album "Candombe del ´31" (1977) was released 20 years ago. Firstly I planned to do two concerts, then they became six and finally we played nine. I decided to record and film the last three concerts of this series. The present album and the video, today available on DVD, are the result of these recordings. I need to confess that this album is very important for me. Very often live-albums are released as a kind of a bonus to the rest of the discography and are less important for some musicians. But this is not the case with this one. It´s the album I dedicated more time than to all the rest of my records. It is also the longest that I have ever released (the total time is the typical length of double vinyl album) and stands for the more than 1.000 concerts I played in Uruguay. The repertoire contains songs that became popular (even if five or six of the all-time favourites are missing) and others that are less known. But the important detail and the key to the album is the fact that all songs are played by the same band, so that the repertoire from the last 20 years is presented as a unit. I have to say thank you to everyone who made this album possible. Especially I´d like to thank all musicians who brightened the songs with their remarkable interpretations." - Jaime Roos (Montevideo, Juli 2003)

Press from the record label

Jaime Roos is one of those musicians who have reached to be big stars in their countries but are almost unknown in the rest of the world. He is one of the most important cultural representatives of Uruguay and a big star in Argentina. After 34 years of an extremely successful career, "Concierto Aniversario" is his first official release in Europe.

The CD is a kind of "Best of" album: a Jaime Roos concert is at the same time a big party and melancholic music. From the first Murga, the 1.000 beats of the Candombe players to the last Milonga. Roos shows diversity not only in his music but also in his lyrics: he decribes topics of the barrios, the footbal fans (Cuando juega Uruguay), spiritual love (Si me voy antes que vos), the melancholy of three broken lifes (Las luces del estadio), sings an hommage to his adored football team (Cometa de farola), tells us about the experiences of the Uruguayan emigrants (Los olímpicos), the tradition and culture of the Carnaval (Los futuros murgistas), the corner of Montevideo where he was born (Durazno y Convención) and the mysterious meeting of football and death (Tal vez cheche). He also presents classics like "Amándote" that belongs to the repertoire of all big latin-american singer/songwriters like Rubén Blades. Jaime Roos is Montevideo, he is Uruguay. But the big affection of the Argentine audience explains that his musical language is able to cross borders. Many of his songs are now part of the popular Argentine music and form an important point in the understanding of the other side of the Río de la Plata.

Roos takes care of the different musical traditions of Uruguay (Murga, Candombe, Milonga, Tango) and enriches them with new ideas and tendencies. Together with his band La Doble (today named "Contraseña"), he merges the typical candombe drums, choirs and the indispensable percussion that belongs to the Murga with a powerful Rockband and Latin-Jazz musicians.

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
