Miner's songs, traditional flamenco singing from the mines of Levant, Spain includes old fandangos, malagueñas, rondeñas, javeras, verdiales, cartageneras, tarantas, mineras, fandango minero, levantica and murciana. These are old recordings collected, remastered and annotated by Jose Blas Vega and Jose Crespo.

The record label says:
Songs from the Levant (the east) is how artists and aficionados denominate the collection of styles which come from the geographical area known as the Levant. The granaína, media granaína and fandangos from Granada; the malagueñas, rondeñas, javeras, verdiales and fandangos from Málaga; the tarantas, tarantos and fandangos from Almería; and the cartageneras, tarantas, mineras, fandango minero, levantica and murciana from Murcia. Within these styles is a group also known as cante minero, miner’s songs, or cante of the mines because of its connection with mining populations or areas, where these primitive styles where first sung, before professional artists took them up. The ambience and problems associated with miners are reflected in their lyrics. The common characteristics among all these styles are the metric base, their musical and expressive freedom, and an origin in the primitive Spanish fandango. In this CD we offer an anthology, in the voices of outstanding specialists of the styles.
