From the RootsWorld review: Gil's characteristic growling, flamenco-tinged vocals are the highlight, but he leaves room aplenty for his guests and accompanists, and the DVD (shot expertly from varied perspectives - listen at full volume for a full sense of the dynamics) enables listeners unfamiliar with his music to appreciate the range and nuance of sounds emanating from this transcendental convergence. Bout is a gifted, consummately expressive singer whose dramatic presence commands without dominating, visibly affecting the rapt musicians as much as the audience (e.g., “Van tres” - with a lovely interplay between Gil and Bout, or “Adieu paure carnavas/Wa Habibi,” with Yannatou joining). In a concert where every piece constitutes a highlight, among the astounding, culturally uncategorizable offerings are the final two, “Canço dels traginers” and “Ballo sardo/Cavalli d'Aràbia," with Yannatou and Gil pairing off. The finale is a wonder to behold, confirming Yannatou - in her terrifyingly diverse repertoire of swooping overtones, ululations, glossolalia, shrieks, cries, and whispers - among the most exciting vocal artists from around the region and far beyond. For a bracing sense of the vitality of contemporary pan-Mediterranean music, start here. - Michael Stone

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
