Ágnes Herczku
Arany és kék szavakkal (In gold and blue) (Fono, Humgary)
$18.99
OK, I'll start with the inevitable comparison to the a young Marta Sebestyen....
But she is really a shining star in her own right. She has performed and recorded with some of Hungary's best: Kalman Balogh, Okros, Nikola Parov and so many others, and she is inevitably mentioned in any review of any CD or concert she has been a part of. This CD shows why, in 11 beautiful, raw and unfettered songs from the tradition, accompanied by cimbalom, fiddle, flutes, acoustic bass, viola, violin and Moldavian lute... all in service to displaying a stunning voice. It's like hearing the dance house music of Hungary for the first time, again.

| The recording is of such detail that small musical structures fill the room. The stories leap out of the speakers. And Ágnes Herczku sings beautifully, in a way that is both full of feeling with just a touch emotional detachment. These stories are meaningful to her, but are not her own and she points out the difference, lest we are misled into believing we know how it is to feel like that... This is a demanding, difficult record that points the way to the greater mysteries of life, and particularly love; a journey more than a recording. - Nondas Kitsos, RootsWorld (Read the full review) |

Please note!
Most CDs have been
imported from Europe or Asia.
They are not all
shrink-wrapped, and I am not
going to con you by wrapping them
here just to make you think they
have been sterilized in America.
We guarantee that the CDs and the
contents are all brand new and in
perfect condition. Whenever I
can, I use recycled shipping
materials. They may not look as
pretty on the outside, but they save
money and keep the trash dumps a
little bit emptier.
