Please note!
Most of our CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. I guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
Thanks- Cliff, cdRoots

In some ways the official national folk group of Finland, this 14 year old group has featured some of the brightest lights of Finnish traditional music. The core ensemble is Ritva Talvitie, Timo Valo, Antti Hosioja, Risto Hotakainen. They play fiddle, harmonium, drone-fiddle, jouhikko, bass, mandolin, accordion, flutes, offer some excellent vocals. They are joined by guest vocalists Anita Lehtola (Hedningarna) and Tellu Virkkala (ex-Hedningarna). Eino Tulikari (1905-1977) was a kantele player from the Perho River valley in Finland. He is recognized as one of theold masters, and in fact this recording was the first issued by the Finnish Folk Music Institute in Kaustinen, so his influence is obvious.

Kirjo
- Petri Hakala
$temp out of stock
(cdRoots# finn-hakala)
At home on a variety of strings, including cittern, guitar, and fiddle, Hakala is plainly most comfortable on mandolin, a challenging little instrument from which he wrings articulate and varied effects with the seeming effortlessness denoting thorough mastery. The supporting musicians on these twelve tracks, mostly Hakala compositions, are also a recurring joy, collaborating in an often startling traditional sound with unusual tonal combinations and a profound jazz influence. Jim Foley, RootsWorld
