Virtually unknown in Italy, the traditional music of Quebec is a kind of mélange of Scot-Irish music with French songs. Alongside the fiddle, mandolin, guitar and piano, its typical instruments are the melodeon, the oldest kind of accordion, which is still found in Quebec and Louisiana, and... the musicians' feet, which make for a powerful rhythmic background in wild dances. Andrea Capezzuoli, who has always been very fond of this music, has collected a handful of classics of this genre and made a fizzy but at the same time accurate CD despite what its title would suggest (an old Italian refrain says that you do bad if you do using your feet).

Rinaldo Doro and Sonia Cestonaro, the protagonists of this new project, are not true goblins but enjoyed themselves in messing around in the world of folk music, with a cheerful and energetic CD: waltzes, polkas, mazurkas and scottisches dating from the start of the 20th century, together with curentas and monferrinas from the Canavese, the area surrounding Ivrea, Piedmont.

(cdRoots# fce-5366)
With Gabriele Coltri, Vincenzo Caglioti, Stefano Valla e Maurizio Dehò. Musician and composer Antonello Paliotti says: Roberto Carlotti defines himself a "non-professional man of music". This is probably what makes his CD not a product to be sold, not a demo, not a promo. It is neither Northern nor Southern music; it should be given as a present, just like the famous red horn-shaped amulets or talismans; it would be better to donate it just like you donate a bit of commonsense and joyful sounds. In other words, it is not a typical fucking-damned popular-ethnic product of the music recording industry. All the "professional men" who work in this field – with Paliotti in the front row – can learn something from this CD and from Carlotti. Thanks a lot, Roberto.

Ma'aria - Sugnari - $14.99

Drawing from this repertoire, the band re-proposes in a very original way the compositions transcribed for the most classic among the classic kinds of ensemble: the string quartet. Quartetto Tamborini is born from an idea by Bruno Raiteri, violinist of La Ciapa Rusa.

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
