cd cover Roberto Carlotti
Il giardino di Sofia (FolkClub Ethnosuoni)

Roberto Carlotti defines himself a "non-professional man of music". This is probably what makes his CD not a product to be sold, not a demo, not a promo. It is neither Northern nor Southern music; it should be given as a present, just like the famous red horn-shaped amulets or talismans; it would be better to donate it just like you donate a bit of commonsense and joyful sounds. In other words, it is not a typical fucking-damned popular-ethnic product of the music recording industry. All the "professional men" who work in this field – with Paliotti in the front row – can learn something from this CD and from Carlotti. Thanks a lot, Roberto. - Antonello Paliotti

Track info and sound samples:
1 Nazional popolare When Stefano Valla asked me to write a song for him, I was caught by a sort of “curtain raiser” cheerfulness, which brought the initial melody to my mind.
2 Mazurka Ippazio I wrote this mazurka during a holiday in Puglia. Ippazio is the name of the landlord; his oil was genuine, his wine generous.
3 Scottish a Ballyheigue In a small sea-village in Ireland, sated with gigues and reels, I longed for something different…
4 Il giardino di Sofia Sofia is a very nice Greek woman. In her garden, on an island, I spent a lot of hours playing accompanied by balm-crickets.
5 Valzer per il Valla Stefano Valla has been for years an interpreter and ambassador of the music of the 4 Provinces, in Italy and abroad; vitality and passion are his distinctive features. I can talk about the accordion with him for an indefinite time.
6 Polka a Lorient Joy and melancholy can be told in many ways.
7 Scottish a Stavros The journey of a nursery rhyme.
8 Valzer a Chiaiolella How many ways are there to play a walzer?
9 Makurza a Pilaz His favourite.
10 Scottish a Pilaz Sometimes you are amazed at thinking of what all the melodies that went through your ears made of you, and you ask yourself if all these experiences can find a balance in your music.
11 Est According to the season, we risk to catch colds and flues that come from all four cardinal points… However, we can learn something from every musical virus.
12 Mazurka a Stavros Vincenzo Caglioti has got touch and expressiveness like few others; I fell in love with French mazurkas after listening to him.
13 Rigaudon I like traditional rigaudon melodies; they crossed years of history without losing their great drive.
14 Mazurka in re minore You can tell a story with notes.
15 Bourrée a due The rhythmic accents and modal melodies of this French dance have always influenced me, as they speak a universal language.
16 Ragtime A ragtime for accordion.
17 Valzer a Pilaz I wrote this song in a small village in the mountains of Aosta Valley; the sight from my window was breathtaking.
18 Horn Pipe This song comes from my old passion for Irish music.

Please note!
Most CDs have been imported from Europe or Asia. They are not all shrink-wrapped, and I am not going to con you by wrapping them here just to make you think they have been sterilized in America. We guarantee that the CDs and the contents are all brand new and in perfect condition. Whenever I can, I use recycled shipping materials. They may not look as pretty on the outside, but they save money and keep the trash dumps a little bit emptier.
